Ancient Rome
republic- a state in which supreme power is held by the people and their elected representatives, and which has an elected or nominated president rather than a monarch.
plebeian- In ancient Rome, one of the common farmers, artisans, and merchants who made up most of the population.
tribune- an official in ancient Rome chosen by the plebeians to protect their interests.
consul- an official appointed by a government to live in a foreign city and protect and promote the government's citizens and interests there.
senate- the state council of the ancient Roman republic and empire, which shared legislative power with the popular assemblies, administration with the magistrates, and judicial power with the knights.
dictator- a ruler with total power over a country, typically one who has obtained control by force.
legion- a unit of 3,000–6,000 men in the ancient Roman army.
Punic Wars- The Punic Wars were a series of three wars fought between Rome and Carthage from 264 BC to 146 BC
Hannibal- Carthaginian general and statesman who commanded Carthage's main army against Rome during the Second Punic War. He is widely considered one of the greatest military commanders in history.
2. What do you consider to be the most important event in the chronological timeline for the development of Rome? Why?- I think when they converted everybody to Christianity.

3. What limits were there on the power of the Roman consuls?- Their term was only for one year and couldn't be reelected for 10 years also one consul could always overrule, or veto, the other's decisions.
4. What was the significance of the Twelve Tables?- It established the idea that all free citizens had a right to the protection of the law.
5. How was Hannibal’s attack on Rome daring and different?- He led his army on a long trek from Spain across France and through the Alps.
